refollow logo Refollow helps you to keep track on your Twitter friends and followersAs I wrote some time ago I had quite some trouble keeping my Twitter friends and followers list clean and tidy after using some auto-follow tools. Taking part in the Twitter followers earning race I thought it would be good to follow everybody who started following me, but after some time I knew better. No human being is able to follow hundreds of people, not to speak about the fact that it is impossible to engage with them. Today I happened to find Refollow, a tool that enables you to filter your followers and the people your are following in different ways. It let’s you follow the right people, the people who try to engage. [click to read more…]

Not sustainable: a new coal fueled power plant in Tczew

by Peter Horsten on November 26, 2009

coal fueled power plant 300x201 Not sustainable: a new coal fueled power plant in TczewDuring the Globe Forum, which took place several weeks ago in Gdańsk, one of the main conclusions was that we have to look for different power solutions NOW! Therefore, I was very shocked to read that they plan to build a new not sustainable coal fueled power plant in Tczew. Can we please try to use the estimated investment of € 3 billion in a more sustainable way? When will we finally start practicing what we preach?

Combining high productivity with fun

by Peter Horsten on November 11, 2009

Combining high productivity with funYesterday afternoon a new Dutch client arrived in Gdańsk. Just like many others also this client didn’t know what to expect. The image Dutch people have about Poland is still not too positive, biased by the media. The advantage is that it is rather easy to surprise them. A good combination of sightseeing and a productive day made we managed to impress our client.

20 years after the Berlin Wall

by Peter Horsten on November 9, 2009

Remainings of the Berlin Wall [Credits: stck.xchng]Probably you noticed Europe is celebrating that 20 years ago the Berlin Wall “fell”. This moment meant a major change for Europe. It led to today’s free Europe. Travelling through Europe is easy and you hardly notice that life was completely different just 20 years ago. The young generation is even not aware of the different Europe we used to have. Today’s celebration shows we should not forget what happened and why it happened in the past. Let’s celebrate our freedom, meanwhile realizing ourselves how valuable this freedom is. Freedom that feels so normal, but for many people it wasn’t normal for a too long time.

Personally for me the fall of the Berlin Wall meant that some years later I was able to travel to Poland. A trip that resulted in a positive dramatic change in my private life. This more or less made I’m living in Poland today.

Unfortunately in our world still too many people can not enjoy a similar freedom.

The youth has the future

by Peter Horsten on November 4, 2009

The youth has the futureWe need to take good care of our kids. They have most of the future in front of them. At the Globe Forum in Gdańsk the statement was clear: We cannot leave a mess behind which our kids have to solve. We are responsible that they can face a bright future.

Today my youngest son had his 4th birthday. His happiness after receiving a present is my picture of the day.

I love Warsaw

by Peter Horsten on November 4, 2009

I love WarsawI like to visit Warsaw for many reasons. Among others it’s the place where my current wife became my ‘girlfriend’. I fell in love with the city as well. Soon this love will become more serious. Together with a friend we will start a new sales office in Warsaw soon.

The Culture Palace on the picture is one of the most remarkable places in Warsaw. It’s my picture of the day.

Local governments need to take the lead to become sustainable

Stage in the main concert hall of the Philharmonic in Gdansk half an hour before the theme session.

Last Wednesday I had the honor to moderate one of the theme sessions at the Globe Forum Innovation Summit in Gdańsk. The government of Gdańsk asked me to take care of the session entitled: “Integration and innovation – a long term prospect for sustainable metropolitan development”. Together with Mr. Alan  Aleksandrowicz (CEO of Invest GDA), David Kay (CEO of GE Money Bank Poland) and the audience we had a great discussion in the main concert hall of the beautiful Philharmonic in Gdańsk. The main conclusion is that for Polish local governments there is still a lot  to be done if they aim for sustainability, it’s time to act. We have no time to lose.

Sometimes you need to watch things from a different perspectiveClimbing the watchtower, the Pachołek, in Gdańsk Oliwa today, I was looking forward to the wonderful view I would have from there. The city is lying about 100 meters lower, at your feet. This is such an amazing view. Walking down I realized it is very often the same in our daily life. Being busy we tend to forget what it is all about in life. We let ourselves being lived. Climbing your own Pachołek from time to time makes you look at your live from a distance, it shows the patterns you are following, uncovering both the successful decisions as well as your mistakes.
